Megan Coyle will have a series of her collages made from recycled magazines on display at the Art League Gallery in Old Town, Alexandria. Her solo show, “Stories in Paper,” features several 18”x24” figurative collages. Coyle recently had a solo show at the Fisher Gallery in May, and her Art League show will showcase an entirely different body of work than her previous exhibition. “Stories in Paper” will run from July 8th until August 2nd, 2010.
Coyle is drawn to artwork that’s made from one medium and looks as though it was made from an entirely different medium. She strives to do this with her own work by taking magazine strips and manipulating the paper in such a way that it resembles the distinct brushstrokes of a painting. She calls her process “painting with paper” and likes to focus on paper paintings that explore narrative scenes from everyday life.
Megan Coyle grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and attended T.C. Williams High School. In 2008, she received a degree in Painting and Creative Writing from Elon University. Coyle is currently a Visiting Artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center (TFAC) in studio 30 for June and July. The TFAC is also where the Art League Gallery is located – so after checking out the show, “Stories in Paper,” you can stop by the studio to pay the artist a visit.

An artist talk will follow the reception at 8:00 pm.
